Konidela Siva Sankara Vara Prasad, popularly known as Chiranjeevi, was born on August 22, 1955, in Mogalthur, West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, India. He is the son of Konidela Venkata Rao, a constable in the excise department, and Anjana Devi. Chiranjeevi spent his childhood in his native village with his grandparents due to his father’s frequent transfers.
Chiranjeevi made his acting debut in 1978 with the film Punadhirallu, though Pranam Khareedu was released earlier. He gained prominence with his role in Khaidi (1983), which marked a turning point in his career. Known for his exceptional dancing skills and dynamic performances, he introduced breakdancing to Telugu cinema, setting new standards for actors in the industry.
Over his illustrious career, Chiranjeevi has acted in over 150 films across Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, and Kannada languages. He has received numerous accolades, including four Nandi Awards and nine Filmfare Awards So
Apart from his acting career, Chiranjeevi is a philanthropist and former politician. He founded the Chiranjeevi Charitable Trust in 1998, which focuses on blood and eye donation, as well as healthcare initiatives. In politics, he served as the Union Minister of State for Tourism from 2012 to 2014 and was a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha from 2012 to 2018.
In recognition of his contributions to Indian cinema, Chiranjeevi was honored with the Padma Bhushan in 2006 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2024, India’s second and third-highest civilian awards, respectively.
