Jagapathi Babu

Jagapathi Babu, born as Veeramachaneni Jagapathi Rao Chowdary on February 12, 1962, in Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh, is a renowned Indian actor primarily known for his work in Telugu cinema. He is the son of legendary producer-director V. B. Rajendra Prasad, which gave him early exposure to the film industry. Although his initial years in cinema were met with moderate success, Jagapathi Babu eventually carved a niche for himself as a versatile actor, earning respect across generations.

He made his debut in 1989 with the film Simha Swapnam, which was produced by his father. However, his breakthrough came in 1993 with Gaayam, directed by Ram Gopal Varma, which established him as a serious actor. Over the next two decades, he delivered several hits such as Subhalagnam, Pelli Pandiri, Maavichiguru, Manoharam, Antahpuram, and Samanyudu. He became especially popular for his romantic and family-oriented roles, earning the title of the “Family Hero”.

Jagapathi Babu’s career took a major turn in the 2010s when he reinvented himself as a powerful supporting actor and antagonist. His performance as a villain in Legend (2014), starring Balakrishna, was widely acclaimed and marked the beginning of a successful second innings. Post-Legend, he was flooded with offers to play strong character roles, antagonists, and father figures. He starred in key roles in blockbuster films such as Srimanthudu, Nannaku Prematho, Rangasthalam, Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava, and Pushpa: The Rise.
