Sunny Deol

Sunny Deol, born as Ajay Singh Deol on October 19, 1956, is an iconic Indian film actor, director, producer, and politician. He is best known for his powerful voice, action-packed performances, and deep connection with patriotic and justice-driven roles in Hindi cinema. Sunny Deol comes from a distinguished Punjabi film family—he is the eldest son of veteran actor Dharmendra and the half-brother of actor Bobby Deol and actress Esha Deol.

Sunny completed his early education in Mumbai and later studied theatre at Old World Theatre in Birmingham, England, which helped refine his acting craft. He made his Bollywood debut in 1983 with the romantic film Betaab, which was both a critical and commercial success. This film catapulted him into stardom and established him as a leading man with a strong screen presence.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Sunny Deol rose to become one of the most bankable stars in India. He is particularly remembered for his intense performances in movies like Arjun (1985), Tridev (1989), Ghayal (1990), Damini (1993), Jeet (1996), and Ghatak (1996). His portrayal of a righteous, angry young man fighting against corruption and injustice became his signature style. In Damini, his courtroom dialogue “Tarikh pe tarikh…” is still one of the most iconic lines in Bollywood history.

One of Sunny Deol’s most legendary roles was in the war film Border (1997), where he played Major Kuldip Singh. Later, in Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001), he played Tara Singh, a role that achieved cult status and became a massive box office hit. His performance was loved across generations and remains a defining part of his legacy.

As a filmmaker, Sunny Deol has directed and produced several films under the Vijayta Films banner. He made his directorial debut with Dillagi (1999), where he shared screen space with his brother Bobby Deol. In 2023, he returned with the sequel Gadar 2, which revived his popularity among both old and new audiences.

Apart from films, Sunny Deol ventured into politics and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2019. He successfully contested the Lok Sabha elections from Gurdaspur, Punjab, and became a Member of Parliament, demonstrating his popularity beyond cinema.
