Tabu, born as Tabassum Fatima Hashmi on November 4, 1971, in Hyderabad, India, is a renowned Indian actress known for her versatility and powerful performances across Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Bengali, and English-language films. Belonging to a family with ties to the Indian film industry, she is the niece of veteran actress Shabana Azmi. Her early education took place in Hyderabad, and she later moved to Mumbai for further studies, where her journey into the world of cinema began.

Tabu’s career began at a young age with a small role in the film Bazaar (1982), but she got her breakthrough as a lead actress in the Telugu film Coolie No. 1 (1991). She gained widespread recognition with the 1994 Hindi film Vijaypath, opposite Ajay Devgn, which won her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. What set Tabu apart from her contemporaries was her willingness to take on challenging and unconventional roles, carving a niche for herself as a thinking actor.
