Sukumar

Sukumar Bandreddi, popularly known as Sukumar, is a renowned Indian film director, screenwriter, and producer who primarily works in the Telugu film industry. Born on January 11, 1970, in Mattaparru, a small village in the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, India, Sukumar was raised in a modest family with strong academic roots. He holds a Master’s degree in Mathematics and initially worked as a college lecturer before stepping into the film industry. His analytical mindset and academic background have significantly influenced his complex and layered storytelling style.

Sukumar began his career in the film industry as a writer and assistant director. He made his directorial debut with the 2004 romantic action drama “Arya”, starring Allu Arjun, which became a huge success and established him as a director with a unique narrative style. He followed it with successful films like “Jagadam”, “Arya 2”, and the critically acclaimed “100% Love”. Sukumar is known for blending intelligent screenplays with commercial appeal, often exploring themes of psychology, love, and social issues.

One of his most celebrated works is “Rangasthalam” (2018), a period action drama that won several awards and was both a critical and commercial blockbuster. In 2021, Sukumar directed “Pushpa: The Rise”, starring Allu Arjun, which became a pan-India hit and boosted his popularity nationwide. The sequel, “Pushpa: The Rule”, is one of the most awaited Indian films.

Sukumar is also a producer through his banner Sukumar Writings, supporting new talent and experimental cinema.
