Surender Reddy

Surender Reddy, born on December 7, 1975, in Machanapalli village near Jammikunta, Karimnagar district, Telangana, is a prominent Indian film director and screenwriter known for his work in Telugu cinema. Raised in an affluent family, he was the fourth of six children. His father, Veera Reddy, served as the Sarpanch of their village. Surender completed his schooling locally and briefly attended college in Warangal before moving to Hyderabad to pursue his passion for filmmaking. He began his career as an assistant director with the film Preminchedi Endukamma in 1999.

In 2005, Surender made his directorial debut with Athanokkade, featuring Nandamuri Kalyan Ram. The film was well-received and earned him the Nandi Award for Best First Film of a Director. He continued to collaborate with writer Vakkantham Vamsi on several successful projects, including Ashok (2006), Kick (2009), Oosaravelli (2011), Race Gurram (2014), and Dhruva (2016). Race Gurram, starring Allu Arjun, became the highest-grossing Telugu film of 2014 and earned Surender the SIIMA Award for Best Director.

In 2019, Surender directed the epic historical action film Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, starring Chiranjeevi as the titular freedom fighter. The film was produced by Ram Charan under the Konidela Production Company banner and featured an ensemble cast including Sudeep, Vijay Sethupathi, and Nayanthara. It was a significant milestone in his career, showcasing his ability to handle large-scale productions.

Surender’s recent work includes the action thriller Agent (2023), starring Akhil Akkineni. Despite high expectations, the film did not perform well at the box office. However, he remains a sought-after director in the industry, with upcoming projects reportedly in the pipeline.
