Tushar Jalota

Tushar Jalota, born on 25 March 1984 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, hails from a family enriched in academia and music. His mother, Neelam Jalota, is a professor, and he is the nephew of renowned devotional singer Anup Jalota After finishing his schooling, he attended M.M.K College in Bandra and completed acting training at Anupam Kher’s acting school before entering showbiz

He began his career behind the camera as an assistant director with the Bhatt Brothers on films such as Saaya, Murder, Zeher, and Kalyug, later assisting on Barfi! with Anurag Basu and Ram-Leela and Padmaavat under Sanjay Leela Bhansali. These formative years instilled in him a keen eye for narrative detail, visual aesthetics, and filmmaking rigour

In 2007, Tushar made his only acting appearance in the Bollywood film Showbiz produced by Vishesh Films. Though the film did not meet commercial expectations, it marked his sole lead role before he reverted to assisting top directors

His directorial debut came in 2022 with Dasvi, a social comedy that stars Abhishek Bachchan as an uneducated politician who decides to complete his class 10 education while incarcerated. Co-starring Yami Gautam and Nimrat Kaur, the film released on Netflix and JioCinema, earning praise for its performances, humour, and its educational message wrapped in light entertainment. Critics highlighted Jalota’s ability to balance comedic tone with social commentary Bachchan himself commended Tushar’s directorial control, stating that Jalota restored his confidence in portraying the challenging role

On the strength of Dasvi‘s success, Jalota secured a collaboration with Maddock Films and esteemed producer Dinesh Vijan. His next project, Param Sundari, features Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor in a cross-cultural romantic comedy set in Kerala. The film is scheduled to release theatrically in July 2025 and is already generating buzz due to its fresh narrative and strong ensemble cast

On the personal front, he is married to Sharada Karki Jalota, and they have a daughter named Tara. As of mid-2025, estimates put his net worth at approximately USD 550,000
