Sitaare Zameen Par is a 2025 Indian Hindi-language sports comedy-drama directed by R.S. Prasanna and produced by Aamir Khan along with Aparna Purohit. The film is positioned as a spiritual successor to Taare Zameen Par (2007) and is an official remake of the Spanish film Champions (2018). This time, the central focus shifts from education to sports, maintaining the same themes of empathy, inclusion, and personal transformation. The screenplay is written by Divy Nidhi Sharma, and the film features a blend of heartfelt emotion and humor.

The story follows Gulshan, played by Aamir Khan, a former professional basketball coach who finds himself in trouble with the law due to reckless behavior. As part of his community service, he’s assigned the task of coaching a team of basketball players with intellectual disabilities. Initially reluctant and self-centered, Gulshan gradually begins to bond with the team. Through his interactions with these young athletes, he not only helps them gain confidence but also embarks on a journey of self-redemption and personal growth.

Genelia Deshmukh plays the female lead Suneeta Arora, a psychologist who helps Gulshan understand the children’s unique abilities and encourages him to see beyond their disabilities. The film marks the debut of ten specially-abled young actors, bringing authentic representation to the screen. These include Aroush Datta, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, and others, each portraying an athlete with unique personalities and challenges.

The music of the film is composed by the celebrated trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, with background scores by Ram Sampath and lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya. The soundtrack blends motivational beats with emotional melodies that support the narrative’s uplifting arc. The cinematography by G. Srinivas Reddy and editing by Charu Shree Roy complement the film’s emotional highs and humorous moments.

Upon its release on 20 June 2025, the film opened to positive reviews, with critics praising its sensitive treatment of disability, engaging storyline, and the warmth in Aamir Khan’s performance. It received a UA certification from CBFC after a few changes, including the insertion of a motivational quote and a re-edited song sequence.

At the box office, Sitaare Zameen Par had a strong opening, grossing ₹11.7 crore on its first day in India. The film’s earnings saw an upward trend on the second day, indicating positive word-of-mouth publicity, especially among family audiences. Though comparisons with Taare Zameen Par and 3 Idiots were inevitable, the film carved its own niche by blending sports drama with a heartwarming social message.
